Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and gear with new affixes, boosting its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.

Usually items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base while items with strong bases like Eth titans don't change significantly in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

In order to upgrade a weapon or piece of armor, the player has to select it and then click the Upgrade button located in the toolbar. Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade system is different from the previous versions in a few key ways. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can only be upgraded a specific number of times before being "leveled out." The upgrade cost is increased with each level however, the materials needed aren't as high. This allows players to focus their efforts on a specific few items and maximize the impact of those items, rather than dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

For example an uncommon or exclusive weapon that has a standard base will only have two affixes, whereas a legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade step requires a certain number of Flightstones or Crests, based on the type of item at its current level and what slot it is placed in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item does not get to its maximum level the NPC will offer players the option to transfer it to a different character and re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. The process can take as long as two hours and costs the same amount of material however it will have a lower chance of success.

Engineers may employ a level to compare the height of the building with a known location, such as a benchmark. This is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings using the level and backsight rod, then turning the level and making the foresight rod reading.
